Paintings of the Upper Peninsula

View Available Work

I am a landscape painter based in Marquette, Michigan, inspired by the changing seasons and natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula. When I paint, I try to capture the feeling of wind moving through the trees, clouds shifting across the sky, and sunlight relecting on water and land. Using oil paint, brushes, and palette knives, I focus on creating movement and atmosphere so the paintings feel alive with air, light, and motion. My work is rooted in the experiene of being present in the landscape and translating that feeling onto the canvas.

Meet the Artist

Susan Grant

A graduate of Western Michigan University in dance and fine arts I then worked as a dancer for ten years. Moving back to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I fell in love again with the natural beauty of my birthplace. With serious help from my daughter, an artist, I began painting with acrylics, then worked briefly with oil paints. Water-based oil paints offered a more environmentally friendly alternative, so I now paint exclusively in that medium. Currently I sell my art at local art fairs and gallery exhibits, in the Upper Penninsula. I do take landscape commissions. It’s a joy painting areas familiar to me through hiking, biking and skiing in the UP.
